A stationary bike that can do more: At the AWO Senior Center Idar-Oberstein, Germany, residents cycle through familiar landscapes. How a screen combines movement and stories, and why even people with dementia benefit from it.

Bewohner des AWO-Seniorenzentrums Idar-Oberstein genießen virtuelle Radtouren auf dem „Bike Labyrinth“ und trainieren dabei spielerisch ihre Fitness.

The residents of the AWO Senior Center in Idar-Oberstein received a very special gift a few weeks ago. Background: Studies show that older people in care facilities often get too little exercise, even though it is crucial for health, rehabilitation, and well-being. As part of the project “Cycling in Memories,” the Glücksspirale supported the acquisition of a “Bike Labyrinth” after the test phase last year was a complete success. At that time, residents cycled a total of 28 hours over ten days, completing 198 tours.
